Taking a Break

Both Mama and Papa have been taking turns incubating the eggs, but Papa still seems to be a little reluctant to stay too long on the eggs. He is a new Papa as of last year, so he’s still getting the hang of how things work. On this recent evening, he got up off the eggs and took a few quick trips between the nest and the cottonwood tree, landing on one of the nest’s branches each time (3rd image) . Then he started squawking for his mate (image 4), and she showed up shortly thereafter to take the night shift. All is good at the aerie . . .
