Eagle and Eaglet

The January photo from the Eagles & Eaglets 2020 calendar features one of the adult eagles sitting in the nest next to one of the young eaglets (most likely the female since they spend about 90% of their time early on in the nest). Two eaglets hatched during the 2019 season, and the other one was hiding somewhere, probably a little camera shy.

This image was taken the 3rd week of April 2019, and we’re not certain of the exact age of this eaglet, but a good guess would be between 2 and 3 weeks old. Since we are at ground level, you just can’t see them until the little ones get to a certain size, so it’s a guessing game as to when they actually hatch and how many there are.

Here’s a resource with a lot of great information and bald eagle nestling facts.
