Molting Blue Jay

“Hey, um, I’m molting over here, so no posting please, I mean, look at this head!”
“But you have the most beautiful blue feathers, and you’re still the king of the squawkers!”
“Aw, alright then, if you must.”

In late summer each year, Blue Jays go through a complete molt. Usually their entire head molts, and sometimes their neck feathers as well. Does make for a funny look for a while for sure!
