Short-eared Owls are fascinating and mesmerizing to watch as they forage just above the prairie for voles and mice. One minute they are flying along with moth-like flaps of their wings, and then they’ll quickly turn and dive-bomb a vole, or fly straight up to push its talons out against another owl or northern harrier. Shorties are mostly active at dawn and dusk, this along with their agility makes capturing them quite the challenge, which keeps us coming back to their prairies again and again.
